SOME areas of Swindon's services for young people with special needs were praised by inspectors.
The critical report into services by Swindon Borough Council also highlight the commitment and hard work of frontline special educational needs practitioners in schools, the outcomes in Early Years and Key Stage One education, the implementation of a Healthy Child Programme and investment in therapy services.
The report highlighted that public health nurses ensure young people get timely support for speech and language services and that the newly-formed Swindon Families Voice provides valued information and support, which has led to stronger representation and influence for families and carers.
The inspection also noted the effective provision for children with physical and sensory difficulties, and the Challenging Behaviour courses run for parents which has reduced the number of referrals for Autistic Spectrum Disorder and ADHD assessments.
The Butterflies Family Centre was singled out as a high-quality support service.
