SOUTHWICK Players are bringing a children’s favourite to the stage for their annual pantomime, with an adaptation of the Hans Christian Anderson story The Emperor’s New Clothes.

The story follows a vain emperor, who was so excessively fond of new clothes, that he spent all his money on the finest suits and neglected his realm. One day, two rogues, calling themselves weavers, came to the court. They said that they knew how to weave clothes of the most beautiful colours and elaborate patterns, and the king provides them with luxury materials for the suit of his dreams.

Chairman of Southwick Players Jeff Bendell said: "It’s a real fun production involving many families from the village putting on this traditional story in panto form.”

As to how the Players have tackled the moment where the Emperor gets a shock while wearing his new outfit - you'll have to come and see for yourself.

The pantomime opens at the Southwick village hall on Thursday, January 24, with shows that night, Friday and Saturday at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinée at 2.30pm. Tickets are £8/£6 from 01225 761315/760463.
