MORE than 60 people living in Winsley have so far responded to a road safety survey, which closes tomorrow (SaturdayJanuary 26).

Winsley Parish Council decided in December to conduct the survey following concerns about speeding and highway safety.

The council is considering whether to introduce traffic-calming measures on some roads, including the possibility of a 20mph speed restriction and speed indicator signs.

Cllr John Barnes said: “There are costs with introducing 20mph limits and it’s likely these would have to be met entirely by Winsley Parish Council through the annual precept.”

The council is asking residents whether they consider there is a problem with speeding on residential roads in the village, and whether .

Villagers are also being asked whether they think the parish council should pay for a metro-count survey of traffic volumes and speeds on residential roads.

Cllr Johnny Kidney, a parish and Wiltshire Council member, has campaigned for several years to reduce the 50mph speed limit on the B3108 Winsley bypass to 40mph.

He said: “We have had several crashes, particularly near the junction with Dane Rise and the roundabout is a concern.”

Residents at Murhill are also concerned about the speed of traffic using Winsley Hill, where Cllr Kidney would like to see a 30mph speed restriction.

He says the situation could get worse if more traffic uses the B3108 as a result of the Bath Clean Air Zone proposals.

Among the options being considered by the parish council are introducing a 20mph speed limit, installing speed indicator signs, narrowing the carriageway and installing cushions to help reduce speeding.
