SWINDON Town's scheduled match this afternoon at home to Forest Green Rovers in League Two has been postponed due to the wintry weather.

Despite extensive efforts from the club's groundstaff and volunteers to clear the pitch at the Energy Check County Ground in the wake of heavy snow, the decision has been taken to call off the match.

Although the pitch itself has been deemed playable, areas surrounding the ground remain affected by the snow so the match has been postponed in the interest of the safety of supporters.

No date has yet been announced for the rescheduled fixture, but tickets already purchased for today's match remain valid for the date.

A statement on the club’s website read: “Due to the inclement weather that has swept across the south west over the last couple of days, it is with regret that we announce today’s fixture against Forest Green Rovers has been called off.

“Despite exhaustive preparations since full-time in last week’s game against Crawley Town ensuring the pitch was playable for our fixture against Forest Green today, the extreme weather has been too much for the surrounding areas to cope with.

“It is well-known the standard of the surface at the County Ground, and it is a credit to our grounds team, and the volunteers who helped, that the pitch was deemed fit for purpose.

“However, despite the great lengths gone to, supporter safety is paramount and the correct decision has been reached.

“If you have purchased a ticket for this fixture, please retain this as you will be able to use this to attend the rearranged fixture.

“Supporters who are yet to collect their match ticket can do so from the STFC Store prior to the new fixture.

“Supporters who are unable to attend the rearranged match, will be able to obtain a refund from the STFC Store upon the announcement of the new date, and on presentation of your match ticket.

“Fixture details for the re-arranged fixture will be announced in due course once it has been agreed between the two clubs and the EFL.”
