A MAN has been arrested following two armed robberies in the last 24 hours.

Yesterday evening at 10.50pm an armed robbery occurred at the One Stop shop in Warminster. Officers attended the scene, in Imber Road, and area searches were carried out but the offender was not located.

This morning, at 11.30am, police officers received a second report of an armed robbery at the One Stop shop in Westbury. A man is reported to have entered the store, in Queens Road, with his face covered and carrying a knife.

Money was taken from the till and the man made off from the scene in a vehicle.

Descriptions of the offender and the vehicle were passed to officers who attended the scene and area searches commenced.

A 21-year-old man was detained in Frogmore Road and has been arrested in connection with today’s incident. He has been taken to Melksham custody for questioning.

Det Sgt Joe Saunders said: “While it is too early to say if these two incidents are linked, the circumstances and descriptions given are similar and this is one line of enquiry we will be further investigating.

“Fortunately, the staff members were not injured in today’s incident, however, they are understandably shaken up and upset."
