THE battle for the Wiltshire League Premier Division title now appears to be a two-horse race after Kintbury Rangers and Wroughton were able to put more distance between themselves and the chasing pack.

A 2-0 victory for leaders Kintbury over Shrewton United, who began the weekend in third place, means they have now pulled 10 points clear of their beaten opponents.

George Smith put Rangers ahead at half-time before Chris Cox sealed the win in the second period.

Wroughton remain two points behind Kintbury after a dominant 5-1 win at home to Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development.

Jordan Lea led the charge with two goals, while there was one each for Kyle Parker, Shane Hibbert and Jamie McLaughlin. Bassett’s reply came via an own goal.

Four goals from Reece Rusher helped Melksham Town Reserves overtake Shrewton to climb into third place after thrashing visitors Ludgershall Sports 8-3.

Melksham are six points behind second-placed Wroughton but have played two games more than both of the top two.

Adam Mitchell also bagged a hat-trick for the victors and Garry Lock got the other, with Ludgershall netting through David King, Liam Cotter and Danny Hulme.

Corsham Town Reserves were the most convincing winners of the weekend as they roared to a 7-0 success at home to bottom side Devizes Town Reserves.

Adrian Webb struck twice, there was one each for Tom Harvey, Dan Lardner, Ben Wickins and Darrin Moss, with Corsham’s haul completed by an own goal.

Trowbridge Town battled from two goals down to win 3-2 on their trip to Cricklade Town.

Cricklade led at the break through goals from Jason Tatum and Dan Bond, but Joshua Hard’s double and one from Aaron Masson turned the game around for Trowbridge.

Two goals from Joe Tanter fired Malmesbury Victoria Development to a 2-0 victory at Football ID, while Marlborough Town and Purton shared a 0-0 draw.
