JODY Sidelnik, 37, was sentenced to five weeks in prison and ordered to pay £66 compensation after appearing before Swindon Magistrates yesterday.
Sidelnik, of no fixed address, was charged with five counts of theft. Magistrates heard he had committed previous offences.
An earlier report from Calne police on March 6 said they received a report of theft from the Co-op store in Mill Street at 3.10pm.
Calne CCTV operators were able to give officers a detailed description of the man, and at 3.30pm he was sighted on Oxford Road where, after a short chase on foot, the man was detained and arrested.
