A MOTHER and daughter team who founded their company in 2017 in a back bedroom have just sold their 1,000th tutu.

Marketing consultant Lucy Menghini launched her business, Six Stories, from her family home in Berryfield Park, Melksham after she knew what she wanted but struggled to find suitable flower girl outfits for her own wedding two years ago.

Lucy, now 29, a former pupil at Abbeyfields School in Chippenham, said: “After making my own for my three small bridesmaids, I realised what a lovely, cathartic process it was to make the tutus - not to mention the look on the girls’ faces as they twirled and twisted around in them.”

Now the former marketing director of the Social Chain social media firm is head of the company, which specialises in making handmade bridal and special occasion tulle tutus and accessories.

As the company expanded, Lucy, who now lives in a converted six-storey high Manchester cotton mill, neeeded some help.

So she roped in her mother, Fran Clarke, who still lives in Melksham, to head up the production and quality control operations of making the tutus.

“As the orders started to rack up, I needed someone to help make the products we were sending out,” said Mrs Menghini, whose husband Ross also comes from Melksham.

“Mum stepped in to help and now we have a troop of five lovely creators, all based in Melksham, making hundreds of tutus a month.

“We sell them to customers all over the UK and worldwide, including Australia and the USA.”

As the company expands, Six Stories is now looking for four more people and is holding a recruitment evening

tonight, from 6pm-8pm, at the Berryfield

Community Centre in Melksham.

Mrs Menghini said: “Our tutus are predominately for weddings and are very special to our customers.

“This is why we look for those who will truly make them with lots of love and care and will enjoy working for a lovely growing brand.

“We’re looking for people who can commit to a minimum of 10 hours a week and pay great attention to detail.

“They will probably be people who enjoy crafting and making things with their hands; however you don’t need to know how to sew.

“We need people who can collect/drop off tutus in Melksham every week and they must not live in homes with pets that shed hair.”
