A FASCINATING piece of history has been unveiled since Lloyds Bank has moved out of the building in Edward Street, Westbury.

An Art Deco-style window has been revealed after the Lloyds Bank signs were taken down when it closed in February, causing concerns and a topic of debate in the local community.

The Westbury Heritage Society has since said the window which was revealed was added to the building after 1956.

Liz Argent, chairman of the Westbury Heritage Society, said: “The building was originally Capital and Counties Bank and was built for them in about 1900.

“Lloyds took over Capital and Counties in 1918 and moved into the building. The architecture of the window was done by Arts and Crafts, there are many similar branches of Lloyds with this same architecture.

“The window above the door wasn’t there in 1956, it was a later addition, but is there in a picture taken in 1999.”
