A mother-of-two is spearheading a bid to save the White Horse Children’s Centre at Westbury from closure.

Nadine Crook, from Warminster, says the facility on the Eden Vale Road provides a vital help and advisory service to local mums and helps to stop them from social isolation.

She is campaigning to stop Wiltshire Council from closing it as part of children’s services cutbacks.

Families and children spent Tuesday designing and making posters for their campaign.

They are also gathering signatures for a petition, which they plan to present to councillors at their cabinet meeting at County Hall on April 30.

Mrs Crook, who has two children, Esme, three, and Tom, nine months, said: “I used to take Esme to the Warminster Children’s Centre until that closed in 2016.

“When Tom came along, I decided to go to the Westbury Children’s Centre and now that is being threatened with closure.

“Soon, there will be no children’s centres left in South Wiltshire because the council is closing the one at Mere as well.

“It is going to leave a lot of families feeling isolated.”

Wiltshire Council has outlined savings of £250,000 by proposing to close six centres across the county.

It plans to continue providing children’s services from community hubs such as libraries, nurseries and gyms.

In 2016 the council reduced the number of Children’s Centre buildings across the county from 30 to 17.

The new proposal will see centres closing at Westbury White Horse, Trowbridge Longfield, Mere, Salisbury City, Pewsey and Cricklade.
