AS the deadline for the People's Project competition looms - votes must be cast by Sunday, April 14 - staff at Trowbridge Town Hall have come up with a novel idea to encourage people to take part.

The safety fencing which is currently protecting people walking past the crumbling historic building in the town centre from falling masonry, after a sharp-eyed staff member realised pedestrians were at risk following recent gales, is being used for people to hang their ideas on.

The suggestions already made will join those to be put to new director David Lockwood in a public meeting in the hall tomorrow (Wednesday, April 10) at 7pm.

Mr Lockwood wanted to meet the people of Trowbridge as soon as possible after taking up the role at the start of the month, and is combining that wish with asking people to give him ideas on how he should spent the £50,000 the Hall stands to win in the 2019 ITV People's Project competition.

On Friday the Town Hall's promotional video for their bid for cash was shown at the end of the regional ITV news bulletin, just before 6.30pm.

Five projects are competing for people's votes, with the top three getting £50,000.
