THE Mayor of Bradford on Avon, councillor Alex Kay has shown her support for Larkrise and St Nicholas special schools.
Parents from the special educational needs and disabilities families action group attended Bradford on Avon’s full council meeting last week.
They brought issues to members attention regarding the proposed closure of both schools, in favour of a plan by Wiltshire Council to open a much larger facility further afield.
Cllr Alex Kay said: “I understand the concept of a ‘Centre of Excellence’, it works well for factories but it’s not just processes and facilities that educate children.
“I think the case for having special needs educational facilities in the hearts of our communities is really strong.”
In response to a legal challenge by the SEND Families Action Group, Wiltshire Council have launched an extended consultation online.
