CHILDREN and their families sported a variety of homemade Easter bonnets for a competition and Easter egg hunt in Bradford on Avon on Tuesday morning.

Organised by Bradford on Avon Youth, families charged round the Victory fields despite a spot of rain in the morning to search for the all important clues which led them to chocolate eggs.

One family came prepared for the rain and didn’t let a bit of drizzle stop them from taking part

“Even though it was raining we were all looking forward to taking part in the Easter egg hunt.

“We had our wellies at the ready.

“Its a great thing for the kids to be able to do over the half term.

“We have been busy making our Easter bonnet although I am sure the chocolate egg on top of it wont last long around the children.”

Gavin Worrall, BOA youth worker said: “It was such a shame about the weather, but it did pick up later in the morning and in the afternoon.

“We did an event last week as well and managed to pick a rainy day.

“This is the first year we have done an Easter egg hunt and we do plan to it every year as well as other activities for the children of the town.

David Garwood, Bradford on Avon deputy mayor said: “The Easter egg hunt was very well attended and the weather didn’t seem to put anyone off.

"We nearly ran out of Easter eggs as it was so popular, it was a great day."

“This is one of the events put on in accordance with our youth strategy and it gives children something fun and productive to do during the half term holidays.

“There will be more events like this, such as our Duck Race and another Easter egg hunt run by the Lions club on Easter Monday.

“We hope these events will bring more people to Bradford on Avon and enjoying our town.”

The annual duck race will be taking place in the town after the Lions Club’s Easter Egg hunt on Easter Monday.

This year’s Duck Race is sponsored by Puddle Ducks, who offer children’s swimming lessons. Rebecca Brown, a local Puddle Ducks swim teacher, explains why they have chosen to sponsor the race year.

She said: “Puddle Ducks are delighted to once again be involved in the Bradford on Avon Duck Race.

“As a swim school, developing a love of water in all its forms is incredibly important to us, and this family friendly event is a great way of bringing together people of all generations to have fun by the river.”

Puddle Ducks have also offered a prize of 10 free swimming lessons.
