SOME of the biggest names in comedy will be descending on Reading next month for a side-splitting evening of humour.

The fundraising performance is coming to The Hexagon on May 7 and will be hosted by Welsh funnyman Rob Brydon.

Also on the bill are Jo Brand, impressionist Rory Bremner and the award-winning Dana Alexander.

Brydon hosts the popular BBC panel show ‘Would I Lie To You?’ and is known for his role as Bryn in ‘Gavin & Stacey’.

He said: “I’m delighted to be hosting Slapstick’s comedy fundraiser. It’s a great festival and one I’ve enjoyed attending and taking part in.

“It’s a very good cause and it’ll be a great and very funny night.”

All profits from the show will go towards meeting the rising costs of staging the annual Slapstick Festival, the he UK’s biggest celebration of vintage film and TV comedy.

Slapstick’s director Chris Daniels said: “We’re beyond thrilled to be offering comedy fans the chance to enjoy such a brilliantly talented and funny line-up while also helping to keep an important festival going and growing.

“We’re excited to find out which other celebrities will be brought into the mix by the impressions of Rory and Luke [Kempner] and, perhaps also Rob Brydon – no slouch himself at take-offs.”

Tickets for The Big Comedy Bash are on sale for £29.50 and the next Slapstick Festival takes place in January 2020.

Slapstick takes place annually in Bristol and presents special, one-off, events throughout the year in Bristol and elsewhere.

With Aardman Animations, Slapstick also offers two awards to comedy performers – the Aardman Slapstick Comedy Legend Award and the Aardman Slapstick Award for Visual Comedy Excellence.
