CIVIC pride was at the centre of Bradford on Avon’s annual town meeting as the town celebrated its achievements from the past year.

Members of the town council as well as organisations such as Greener BOA and Plastic Free spoke of the achievements of the town and thanked the town council for their ongoing support.

Cllr Alex Kay said: “It’s really been a fantastic honour to be the Mayor of this wonderful town and I have to say it has also been a lot of work.

“I have worked hard chairing meetings, developing proposals to support the whole community. I have also assisted at very varied events many of which have been sad and serious and many have been joyous and a lot of fun.

“What a year it has been and there is such a big list of things that we have achieved as a town over the past year.

“Some of the headlines of some of the things we have achieved as a town council this year is: we’ve launched a youth strategy after no investment in youth for quite a long time.

“We have supported the new science labs at St Laurence School which is a once in a generation opportunity.

“We campaigned and we continue to try and influence Wiltshire Council to keep special needs education close to the heart of our community.

“We have funded measures to help our health services, we voted to support a start up community radio station to play music and to advertise events as well as to train young people in the fine art of broadcasting.

“I look forward to progressing on our plans together with everyone, our many volunteers and everyone who lives, works or visits this town.”
