FOLLOWING a week of activities in Calne with a comic theme, Ashley Martin Head of Heddington Primary School and Calne Wordfest Trustee presented the winner’s prize for the best Comedy Slot to Tim Steer.

The prize, an autographed Jasper Carrott CD, was presented after Tim took part in the Comedy Workshop at The Bug and Spider pub. The Workshop and the following Comedy show was organised by Ruth Hill and the Bug and Spider Landlord.

Ruth Hill also a Calne Wordfest Trustee said "We were very pleased that so many talented comics took part in the Comedy Workshop, led by Angie Belcher a professional comic, the following Comedy Show was great too. CALNE Wordfest is keen to support local talent and to show everyone what great talent we have in the Calne area."

During the week 450 Pupils from primary schools, John Bentley School, home educating families and Springfields enjoyed a comic Shakespeare Show in Calne Town Hall performed by Splats Theatre Company London.

Students were entertained by a bike-riding Puck and feather-waving fairies. It showed everyone how A Midsummer Night’s Dream could be hilariously funny when scripted to appeal to a modern audience. Calne Wordfest were pleased that the show was declared a success by staff and students.
