PUPILS at Christ Church Primary School in Bradford on Avon have been trying their hand at journalism as they report on their school’s annual May Fair.

Year Five pupils Mollie, Archie and Beth have their report published below.

“On the May Day bank holiday, as has become traditional, Christ Church Primary School held their annual May Fair organised by Friends of Christ Church in order to raise money for the school.

“Though the total has not yet been finalised, the event is understood to have been a roaring success with an outstanding amount of cash as a result.

“Opening to a crowd of visitors at midday, the fair had a huge range of stalls, activities and displays, such as Morris dancing, the Year Six enterprise sales and a whole host of games including one specially designed by a pupil of the school.

“A few weeks before the event, FOCCS ran a competition to design a game to be used at the Fair. This was won by Peter in Year Three meaning his game Marvellous Marbles was made and played on the day, with it proving to be very popular with children and adults alike.

“This year’s entertainment also included live music, with a performance by local covers band Pseudocrem, and a live radio broadcast using the portable radio station bought for the school through the prior fundraising of FOCCS.

“A talent show also saw a procession of children share abilities ranging from impressions to singing, music and dancing.”

“Headteacher Neil Baker said: “The May Fair was a great event and we were glad that the weather was fine. It was good to see so many members of the community coming together. The school appreciates the fantastic support of the parents and carers who worked so hard to put the fair together.”

“FOCCS chairman Paula Stanger added: “It’s such a fun day out and it’s great that we raised money for the school and children.”

“Overall, the May Fair was a success to remember with fun stalls, great entertainment and plenty of yummy food. We hope next years is just as good.”

English subject leader said: "The pupils really enjoyed being junior journalists.

"Their report is minimally edited and subsequently something that they are very proud of.

"Thanks very much to The Wiltshire Times for letting us have this opportunity.

"The may fair event was a success again this year and all the children had a great time.

"This event is something our pupils look forward to each year."

Last year the Christ Church pupils also put their pens to paper when they wrote reports from the duck race.
