UNLICENSED drivers have had their cars seized by police in Warminster.

On May 16, on Upper Marsh Road, Warminster officers spotted a woman driving a vehicle which was showing as having no tax.

When they stopped the car they discovered the driver only had a provisional licence.

Following further checks on the vehicle, they found it was not insured. They seized it and the driver will be dealt with for the offences at a later date.

Later that evening officers were alerted to a second vehicle being driven without insurance in Warminster.

An initial attempt to stop the car failed and a short pursuit followed before it was brought safely to a stop.

The teenage driver, a 17-year-old man from Warminster, was arrested within minutes for failing to stop for police, driving otherwise in accordance with his licence, and driving without insurance.

The driver was taken to the custody suite at Melksham and has since been released under investigation.

His vehicle was seized by police at the scene.

A Wiltshire police spokesman said: “Warminster police would like to remind all road users that it is their responsibility to ensure any vehicle being driven on the road is taxed, insured and has a valid MOT.

“Driving without the appropriate licence puts your community at risk of serious harm. This sends a clear message to the public that vehicles will be seized.”
