THE four candidates for the vacant South Ward seat on Bradford on Avon Town Council gathered on Friday (May 31) for tea before the election on Thursday (June 6).

Paige Balas (IDEAL Bradford on Avon), Fee Baker (Independent), Pam Hyde (Conservative) and Sara Gibson (Liberal Democrat) met at Cafe Grounded in Bradford during a pause in their election campaigns.

Key issues which have arisen during their discussions with residents are traffic, congestion, parking and the difficulty in obtaining GP appointments.

The vacancy was created by the resignation of former IDEAL Bradford on Avon and Independent councillor Steve Plummer.

Ms Gibson said: “It is a good sign that there are four women in this election, this is not just gender equality, it is about the best person for the job.

“Women have a more active role in politics but there is still a long way to go, I would like to see a change in attitude where feminine is not seen as negative.”
