KEEN amateur photographers in Swindon are being given an extra incentive to get out and about with their cameras this summer.

Our popular annual Photo Competition, staged by the Adver's parent company Newsquest in conjunction with Visit Wiltshire, opens today and invites images that capture the essence of life in the county.

Entries should tie in with one of the tourist information site's four 'Timeless' themes:

• Wonders: including Stonehenge, Avebury, Salisbury Cathedral, the Kennet & Avon Canal and Wiltshire’s white horses.

• Places: including market towns, villages and visitor attractions.

• Pleasures: including shopping, food and drink, festivals and events, arts and entertainment.

• Nature: including big skies, rolling hills, flora and fauna.

Sponsor Castle Cameras – which a branch in Salisbury – is offering gift vouchers worth £200 and £50 respectively to the winner and two runners-up.

Fiona Errington, VisitWiltshire's marketing manager, said: "We are very excited to be launching our 2019 Photo Competition – we are sure we’ll receive some lovely images over the coming months and can’t wait for them to start coming in.

"This year, entrants can send in up to eight images per calendar month from June to September, and as the summer gets properly underway there is sure to be plenty of inspiration for keen photographers all around the county – based on previous years’ experience we can expect the standard of entries to be very high, so we are in for a real treat."

The competition runs until September 29 and entrants can submit up to eight colour, digital images per calendar month – up to 40 in total.
