PEOPLE in Trowbridge were shocked and sympathetic when a man’s body was discovered in the town park early last Thursday morning.

Police officers were called at 6.30am on June 13 after the man in his 20s was discovered in the park, near the River Biss.

Paramedics and forensic teams attended the scene and worked all day to gather evidence.

The area of the park from the Civic down to the bridge leading to Tesco Extra, where it goes round behind the Odeon cinema, was cordoned off and police officers kept people away during the investigation.

A police spokesman said: “We were called to Trowbridge Park on the morning of June 13 after the body of a local man in his 20s was discovered.

“We can now confirm that the death is being treated as non-suspicious and a file will now be prepared on behalf of H M Coroner for Wiltshire.

“As this is a non-suspicious death, it is now a coronial process as opposed to a police investigation.

“The next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”

Many people took to social media on the day and since to express their shock at the incident.

Shirley Grant said: “Praying for the parents how devastating for them. Stay strong.”

Fern Collins said: “How sad. Thoughts go out to the relatives of this man.”

An inquest into the death of the man is still to be opened by the coroner at the courts in Salisbury.

The man’s identity will not be made public until the coroner formally opens the inquest.
