THE Bradfordians are bringing an entirely new version of Thomas Hardy’s most popular novel –Tess of the d’Urbervilles - to the Tithe Barn next week (July 2-6).

Following their sell-out award-winning production of Goodnight Mister Tom in the barn last year the group are putting the finishing touches to their latest ambitious project.

The play tells the story of Tess, a beautiful, spirited country girl and the two men who desire her. It is not suitable for children. It has intrigued and delighted readers for over a century and remains one of the most popular novels ever written.

In its original form Tess of the d’Urbervilles’ was considered too strong for it’s Victorian audience and was not allowed to be published until Hardy had toned it down somewhat. It was not published in the form that Hardy intended until 1891.

Patrons are invited to picnic by the river, have a glass of wine and settle back in the magnificent Tithe Barn as it is transformed to 19th century Dorset.
