STAFF and customers at Sainsbury's supermarket in Melksham have helped raise more than £10,000 for Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Store manager Lewis Pancott and staff presented WAA pilot Rob Backus with £10,276 on Monday July 8 at the air ambulance helipad at Semington.

One of the Sainsbury staff involved at the presentation was Carol Gray, whose accident in February 2013 prompted the store to help the charity.

She was airlifted to hospital with injuries that included a broken neck after being in collision with a lorry on the A420 near Chippenham.

The store's PR ambassador Mo Deedigan said: "Staff and customers helped to raise this amount.

"They bought charity books and donated through in-store collections and one member of staff was sponsored to raise funds by running the Chippenham half marathon."

Sainsbury's also staged at Victorian store at the Brookside care home in Ruskin Avenue.

To celebrate its 150th anniversary this year, the Melksham store is planning a series of local community projects.
