A 17-year-old boy was arrested by Melksham police last week following a tip off about suspicious activity in the Primrose Drive play area.

At around 2.45pm on Tuesday, July 9, officers attended the area just before children were due to leave school, and conducted a search under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

One youth was found to be in possession of a large quantity of cannabis and several hundred pounds in cash.

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs and taken to Melksham custody.

A further search was conducted at his home address in Melksham and further suspected Class A and B drugs were located as well as cash.

He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

PC Lee Pelling said: “This just shows how important community intelligence is – we rely on the public to act as our eyes and ears and report any suspicious activity immediately so we can take action."

“Drugs can blight a community and I’d encourage anyone who suspects drug activity in their neighbourhood to call 101.”
