A MAN who is accused of taking part in a robbery of a village store is to face trial by judge and jury.

Ryan Jones pleaded not guilty to being involved in the raid on the Central Store in Winsley on Friday May 24.

The 28-year-old also denied a charge of burgling a house on Winsley Road, Bradford on Avon, a week earlier.

It is said he was one of two people who carried out the robbery of the shop on Tyning Road during the spring evening.

Jones, and 'another', are alleged to have made off with cash and cigarettes worth just over £600.

Judge Peter Crabtree, sitting at Swindon Crown Court, adjourned the case to August 2 and released him on conditional bail.

Jones, formerly of Longfield Road, Trowbridge, was told to live at an address in Westbrook, Bromham.

The court heard he is currently residing in a caravan there and must observe an 8pm to 8am curfew.

Sam Jones, defending, said his client had been told to be in between 4pm and 9am since being granted bail by magistrates.

He said it was 'overly onerous' for a man to be under a 17 hour curfew in a caravan during the summer months.

Police were called to the village store shortly after 6pm to reports that two men had held up staff, making off with a wad of notes and tobacco.
