TWO teenagers have been arrested in connection with a car key burglary in Westbury.

The incident was reported to police on Sunday when the owner of a silver Honda Civic realised that, unknown to him, someone had clearly driven and damaged his car before returning it to the same location.

It is believed the keys were stolen from the address in the Redland Lane area some time during Friday evening, with the offender or offenders entering the house through an unlocked door and taking the keys from the hallway.

A 17-year-old boy and a 18-year-old man, both from Warminster, have been arrested on suspicion of burglary and subsequently released on conditional bail.

Det Sgt Anthony King, from the Community Tasking Team, said: “This investigation highlights the importance of keeping your home secure, even when you are inside.

“Opportunist burglars will very often try front doors, sometimes walking along a whole street until they find one which is unlocked, and can then be in and out very quickly, taking items they can grab swiftly from the hallway.

“Please lock your doors, even when you are inside, to make sure you keep your property safe.”

Anyone who saw suspicious activity in the Redland Lane area of Westbury on Friday evening should call Wiltshire Police on 101, quoting crime reference 54190071408.
