EMPLOYERS in Melksham are being invited to a Disability Confident event taking place at Melksham Town Hall today, Friday, July 26 from 10am to 12.30pm.

It has been organised by Chippenham MP Michelle Donelan who said: "As you know, helping disabled people into work is not simply about getting them a job, it is about providing all members of our society with an equal opportunity to have the career they want.

"I have been working with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to organise this opportunity for businesses in my constituency to learn more about what being Disability Confident means.

"There will also be a presentation on Access to Work and the Government grants available to help employers accommodate disabled employees."

Pluss, a nationwide leading disability employment specialist, is the main sponsor of the event.

The company will give a brief presentation on just how much of a positive impact employing disabled people can bring to any employer.

Miss Donelan added:"Disability Confident is about removing the barriers into work for disabled people to give them the same opportunity as non-disabled people as well as seeing the benefits of having a diverse workforce."

As well as specialist organisations like Pluss, there will also be Disability Confident businesses and organisations, who will share their experiences with the scheme.

There will also be information on how you and your business can sign up and, if your business is already Disability Confident committed, progress to the next level, as well as what Government funding is available.

The MP added: "I aim to visit at least two businesses every week so I would love to meet you all and discuss any national or local issues you would like to raise."
