YEAR 1 children at Westbury Leigh Primary School have been meeting different people in their community.
As part of their ‘people who help us topic’, they met Hilary Reed, a Guide Dogs for the Blind Association trainer from Westbury who is about to train her 50th puppy.
She brought her dogs into school to tell the children all about their care, their training and what they go on to do when they have finished the training.
Emma Hollingshead, of Westbury Leigh Primary School, said: “The children loved meeting their special visitors and went on to think about how they could help. They decided on holding a cake sale.
“Colourful posters were created, bunting was made and the news was spread to parents, pupils and staff.
“All this lead to an amazing cake sale with lots of incredible yummy cakes baked and iced by the children and parents.”
Year 1 pupil Renayah said: “The cake sale had lots and lots of yummy cakes for everyone to buy.”
The children raised £186.50, which was presented to Mrs Reed at a celebration assembly.
Year 1 pupil Ben said: “It is really good because people who are blind will get a guide dog to help them.”
