POLICE and fire officers are investigating a fire which destroyed a popular roadside café on the Bowerhill Industrial Estate this morning.

Firefighters with four appliances, two from Trowbridge and two from Devizes, were deployed to tackle the fire at Eddie’s Diner in Lysander Road just after 1am.

The blaze was put out using six breathing apparatus, two main jets, three hose reel jets and thermal imaging equipment.

Eddie's Diner owner, Mike Henley, was unavailable for comment this morning.

Fire officers said the incident could have been even worse as crews tackling the fire found three gas cylinders which had to be cooled before they could proceed.

A neighbouring factory building was also saved, Trowbridge firefighters said on Twitter. In a video taken by the crews, flames can be seen licking at the windows of the diner cabin, with cars gingerly driving past the fire.

On February 14 last year, a large static caravan on Mr Henley's land in Murray Walk, Melksham, was completely destroyed in an arson attack.
