A CALL has gone out to men and women in Bradford on Avon to "get involved" in the town's new Men's Shed.

Cllr Jennie Parker said they have now found premises for the Men's Shed but it will require a lot of work to get the venture up and running.

Speaking at the town council's community and recreation committee meeting on Tuesday, she said: "Already, 14 people - all men - have shown an interest but women will also be considered once it is up and running.

"We need a lot of skills at the moment because we have found a venue that needs a lot of work before we can open the Men's Shed."

The new location is the former Avon Club on the Trowbridge Road in Bradford on Avon next the Bradford on Avon Town Football Club.

There are two old sheds there - one larger than the other - which are being leased to the venture by the trustees for the site.

Cllr Parker said: "The bigger shed needs a lot of work and the plan is for the men to use the smaller shed.

"They will work on renovating the larger building for the Men's Shed. Everybody is bending over backwards to help.

It is very exciting and it is going to happen," she told councillors.

The move follows two successful meetings in Bradford on Avon on June 28 and on July 25 which men in the town were urged to attend.

"We had a really good turn-out at both meetings from the people who were interested and it's now up to the steering group to take it forward."

The group is being led by Peter Everleigh, former landlord of the Riverside Inn in Bradford on Avon, Josh Clark and Paul Shotton.
