A MAN and a woman have been arrested after a knife-point robbery on the post office in East Knoyle in South Wiltshire.

At around 10.30am today (03/08), a man walked in to Wren's Shop and threatened a member of staff with a knife and demanded money.

He then left with an amount of cash; the male member of staff was shaken but unhurt.

Officers were called immediately and at just after 11am stopped a Honda Civic in the area and detained the male driver and his female passenger. Cash and a knife were also found in the car.

A 34-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman - both from Manchester - were arrested on suspicion of robbery and are in custody at Melksham Police Station.

Det Sgt Lawrence Billi said: "We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious or anyone acting suspiciously in this area this morning.

"It's a very tranquil village and incidents like this are rare; if you saw anything out of the ordinary please contact us."

Supt Steve Cox said: "This is a great example of some excellent work carried out by our officers and staff - reacting to a serious offence so quickly and then apprehending the suspects soon after.

"The message from this to any criminal fraternity is that you may consider a remote location as an easy target but you are very likely to be caught and then punished."

Anyone with information in relation to today's incident should call 101 and quote crime reference number 54190076173 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
