REAL ale drinkers from the Devizes area have raised £600 to help a Wiltshire charity offering support to people suffering from mental health conditions.

They donated 3,000 tokens worth 20p each to charity at the 20th annual Devizes Beer Festival in early July.

David Woodman, from the Campaign for Real Ale’s local branch, presented a cheque to Wiltshire MIND chief executive Carolyn Beale on Monday August 12 in Melksham.

The funds were raised by more than 2,000 people who attended the festival on July 6 at The Wharf in Devizes.

Mr Woodman said: “When they left, we asked them to donate any unused tokens to charity and we raised £600.”

Mrs Beale said: “We are always grateful to receive donations from people raising funds, particularly as we are a small charity and are self-funding.

“Every penny will go towards providing much-needed support services to people with mental health issues across Wiltshire.”

The presentation took place at Wiltshire MIND’s offices in Melksham’s High Street.
