RESIDENTS of Holt are gearing up for their annual village scarecrow trail over the Bank Holiday from August 24-26.

This year's theme is Animal Magic and there will be 50 scarecrows on the main trail and 26 A-Z animal characters on a separate children's trail.

The organisers said: "We have the biggest number ever of confirmed scarecrows with a few more to be finalised.

"This year, we are asking all scarecrow makers to vote for their favourite scarecrow for how it has been made."

The main trail has scarecrows from Leigh Road right up to the last house on the Melksham Road and many more in between.

The children's trail will run separately to the main trail and will be based around the Holt VC Primary School and the Holt Pre-school area where trailers will be away from the traffic on the main road.

Trail maps will be available from the Holt Superstore or the Village Hall from 10am-4pm or from Little Parks from 10am-11am.

Refreshments and toilet facilities will be available throughout the weekend at The Tollgate, The Old Ham Tree, St Katherine's Church, The Field Kitchen and the Pre-school.

As well as the Village Hall car park, the Glove Factory Studios has agreed to let visitors use its car parking facilities.

There will be many prizes on offer for taking part and for getting all the scarecrows correct.

All proceeds from the trail will be shared between the Village Hall, Holt Pre-school and Holt VC Primary School.
