A GROUP forced their way into an elderly couple's home and demanded they hand over cash.

The couple, in the 70s, were said to have been left shaken by the burglary.

Police have appealed for anyone who saw the raid on the home in Woodland View, Wroughton, on Sunday night to come forward. Patrols would be stepped up around the village.

The force said a small group, which they refused to number, had forced their way into the house at around 9pm. They threatened the homeowners and made off with around £300 in cash.

Det Sgt Justin Downes of Swindon CID, said: “Luckily the couple were not physically injured during the burglary, but understandably they have been left shaken by what happened and are being supported by family.

“Our initial enquiries suggest the group fled the scene in a silver or grey car when they were disturbed by a neighbour who noticed the front door had been smashed.

“We believe the vehicle, which may have been an Audi A6, turned right out of Woodland View towards the centre of Wroughton.

“We want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in Wroughton last night. Perhaps you have private CCTV or dash cam footage which may have captured the suspects or their car?”

Insp Al Lumley of the Swindon South community policing team added: “I know that an incident like this will be worrying for the local community. I want to reassure you that we will be doing everything we can to apprehend these offenders."
