PUPILS all across the county have been praised by headteachers after receiving their GCSE results last Thursday.

Now graded by the new numbers system, these results will determine their next steps in education or work.

Melksham Oak interim principal Aidan Blowers was pleased with the results achieved by the school.

He said: “This year’s GCSE results reflect the immense hard work of our students, their parents and their teachers.

“Given the challenges that the ever more rigorous GCSE’s have brought, we are immensely proud of the results that have been achieved.

“Our congratulations go out to all of our students.

“We look forward to welcoming many back to our Sixth Form and we wish the very best of luck to those continuing their education elsewhere.

“I would also like to thank our parents who have worked so hard preparing their young people, and for continuously supporting our wonderful school’’.

Stonar School staff, pupils and parents are also celebrating a record breaking year of GCSE results.

For the first time in over ten years 97 per cent of pupils have achieved five level 4-9 grades and the number of level 7-9 grades increased to 52 per cent.

Incoming Head Matt Way commented: “All in all this year’s results at both GCSE and A Level evidence the strong foundations that are in place at Stonar, combined with the excellent ISI report received in October of last year.

“It was clear from my first interactions with the school that the staff at Stonar work extremely hard to provide individual support to our pupils.

“This enables them to achieve their full potential in a supportive and stimulating environment.”
