HUNDREDS of families came out to enjoy the bank holiday sunshine at the Holt Scarecrow trail this weekend.

This year's theme was Animal Magic and there was 56 scarecrows on the main trail and 26 A-Z animal characters on a separate children's trail.

The main trail had scarecrows from Leigh Road right up to the last house on the Melksham Road and many more in between.

The children's trail will run separately to the main trail and will be based around the Holt VC Primary School and the Holt Pre-school area.

Lillian Blundell from Staverton brought her mum Marge from South Africa to take part in the scarecrow trail.

She said: "This country is just so beautiful, I love visiting here.

"I came over for the scarecrow trail last year.

"We don't have the same sort of community spirit where I am from so it is lovely to be a part of."

June Cooke from Westbury who took part in the trail with her husband.

She said: "We wanted to stay local this bank holiday weekend because of the traffic, and this is pretty much on our doorstep so we thought why not.

"We do like to do this sort of thing, we read about it in The Wiltshire Times.

"The scarecrows are definitely of good quality."

Izzy O'Grady, 9 from Hilperton enjoyed hunting for the scarecrows with her younger brother Zak, 2 and the rest of her family.

She said: "I have really like finding the scarecrows.

"I have guessed a lot of them but some are a bit harder."

All proceeds from the trail will be shared between the Village Hall, Holt Pre-school and Holt VC Primary School.

The scarecrow trail continues until Monday.
