A SCHOOL girl from Steeple Ashton faced the chop on Tuesday afternoon as she had 16 inches of her hair cut off for charity.

Amelia Nicholson, 14 who goes to Stonar School has been growing her hair for several years in the hope of it getting long enough to cut off and donate to the Little Princess Trust, who make wigs for children who have lost their hair through illness or life saving treatment.

So far she has raised £1000 in sponsorship, almost enough for two wigs to be made.

Amelia said: "There are so many people trying to cope with cancer and serious illness. To lose your hair must be really frightening and traumatic. Hopefully my hair will put a smile on someone's face and help make life easier for them.

"I would like to say a huge thank you to my family, friends, neighbours and the villagers of Steeple Ashton who have supported and helped me to raise £1,000 for the charity."
