SIGNAGE for essential roadworks on the A350 through Westbury has already left some drivers feeling confused.
Some signs say the road will be closed from September 16 for 26 days and that diversions will apply.
Other signs state the A350 will be closed between Warminster and Westbury and for Warminster drivers should follow the diversion.
One driver, who declined to be named, said: "The signs are terribly confusing. Either the road is closed, or it isn't."
The closures start on Monday and are likely to last 26 days while the road through Westbury is resurfaced.
A Wiltshire Council spokesman said: "Road closures will be required whilst the work is taking place.
"These road closures will be in place for 24 hour periods to ensure the work is completed quickly and without a drawn-out programme."
Phase 1 - between Frogmore Road and Edwards Street and between Edwards Street and Station Road (B3091).
Phase 2 - between Station Road (B3091) and High Street and between High Street to about 40 metres before Bratton Road (B3091).
Phase 3 - between about 40m before Bratton road (B3091) and Orchard Road and between Orchard Road and Leigh Road (A3098).
While the A350 is closed, Tarmac will carry out carriageway resurfacing, patching works, road marking and adjustment of iron works.
The alternative route is via A350 (unaffected length) – A36 - A361 – Wynsome Street – Goose Street – Bradley Road –Southwick Road – Westbury Road – A363 and vice versa.
The closures and diversion route will be clearly indicated by traffic signs.
It is anticipated that the works will take the stated duration to complete, depending upon weather conditions.
