Melksham raw pet food company, Poppy’s Picnic has donated 1,157 pet meals to Bath Dogs and Cats Home in acknowledgement of the wonderful work the charity does to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome animals.

Poppy’s Picnic, which began life in Bromham, handmakes biologically appropriate raw food meals for dogs and is passionate about the power of fresh food and how it can change a dog's life for the better. The packs of Mince and Meatballs contain a dog’s 5-a-day (meat, bone, offal, veg and vitamins) and are the perfect nutritional boost for the dogs in need. September’s ‘back-to-school’ sentiment was the perfect time for the company to donate, marking a fresh start for the dogs at Bath Cats and Dogs Home.

Poppy’s Picnic and its staff, some of whom have previously volunteered there, are keen supporters of local animal rescues such as Bath Dogs and Cats Home, which saves over 1,100 animals each year including 500 dogs. The Rural Business Award winners aim to make feeding a raw food diet as easy as possible. Its ranges of raw Mince and exclusive Meatballs are easy-to-feed to and mess free, which will make feeding time anything but finickity for the volunteers at the dogs home. Just like humans, dogs react to carb-laden processed food, whereas the biologically appropriate meals will result in calmer, happier dogs with fewer allergies.

Founder of Poppy’s Picnic, Dylan Watkins, said, “It’s heartbreaking knowing these rescues have experienced neglect and we are thrilled to be able to provide them with nutritious food and support the fantastic work and love that the amazing staff at Bath Dogs and Cats Home show to our four-legged friends.”

Rachel Jones, Head of Fundraising at Bath Cats and Dogs Home says, “We work tirelessly to rehome rescues and rely heavily on charitable donations to improve the lives of dogs that have experienced cruelty, abandonment and mistreatment. We’re incredibly grateful for the generous donation of delicious food which will fill over 1,000 dog bowls of these dogs in need.”

The donation to Bath Dogs and Cats Home follows donations from Poppy's Picnic to other charitable organisations both human and canine, such as the British Heart Foundation, eating disorder charity, SEED, Pawprints to Freedom Rescue, a not-for-profit charity for Romanian rescue dogs, and Dogs For Good which supports people with a range of needs including physical disabilities, autism and dementia.
