POLICE officers were called to the River Thames yesterday (September 14) after a piece of military equipment was found in the water.
Cholmeley Road was cordoned off by Thames Valley Police (TVP) officers after a small shell was discovered in the River Thames.
Bomb experts from TVP assessed the wartime shell and it didn't pose as a danger to the public.
The towpath is now open.
A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: "We were called at around 2.10pm yesterday, after a small item of historic ordnance was located in Cholmeley Road, Reading.
"A small cordon was put in place as a precaution until it was assessed by officers from EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal).
"This item was deemed as safe and was subsequently removed and the cordon was lifted."
