POLICE are investigating an alleged burglary at a Travis Perkins branch in York.

Officers arrived in force last night in York's Foss Islands Road after an alarm sounded at a business premises.

Four police vehicles could be seen parked near businesses adjacent to the River Foss, with half a dozen officers standing nearby.

More vehicles were parked around the corner in Navigation Road, where another officer could be seen on duty.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed that the force is investigating a burglary at the Travis Perkins address on Foss Islands Road, which was reported at 9.50pm yesterday.

The spokesperson added: "Small items including torches and tools are believed to have been stolen."

Meanwhile, North Yorkshire fire service said crews from the York and Huntington stations, along with an aerial ladder platform, were called to Foss Islands Road at about 10.45pm yesterday and assisted police in searching the roof of a commercial warehouse following a suspected break-in.  A full search of the roof was carried out using the aerial ladder and a nine metre ladder, but nothing was found, the service added.
