A CLIMATE emergency was declared by Trowbridge town councillors at a meeting last Wednesday.

The motion put forward by councillor Chris Hoar will ensure all future policies and procedures decisions will take the effect it will have on the climate this into account.

Cllr Hoar said: "This is a fantastic step towards moving the council as a whole towards becoming a fully environmentally friendly body.

"On the face of it declaring a climate emergency doesn’t actually mean anything, but the reality is it is a vital step towards ensuring the council places the environment, and the impact it has on the environment central to its decision making process.

"Trowbridge as a whole has started to really embrace this.

"Time is running out and we cannot wait for central government or the County Council to act,

"We need to take steps now and we are determined to do just that."
