RESIDENTS living near play areas in Melksham have been urged to contact their local council instead of posting messages on social media if they see signs of vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

The call follows recent anti-social behaviour and vandalism at the Hornchurch Road play area.

Teresa Strange, of Melksham Without Parish Council, said: "There was some recent damage and removal of items at the play area at Hornchurch Road.

"The parish council were pleased to get the play area up and running again within a day or so of it being closed as a result of the damage.

"All the play areas in the parish are subject to a weekly visual inspection, quarterly more detailed written inspection by RoSPA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) qualified staff, and an annual independent RoSPA inspection.

"We cannot see everything all of the time, so if you see anything amiss then please contact us.

"The play areas in the parish all have a gate sign with the contact details of the Parish Council if you wish to report any damage etc. (including an out of hours number for urgent issues).

"The play areas in the parish are Berryfield Play Area, Shaw Play Area & Playing Field, Beanacre Play Area, and in Bowerhill, Kestrel Court Play Area, Hornchurch Road Play Area and the Sports Field.

"We urge residents to contact us direct if a problem is spotted, please don’t just post on social media, this causes a delay in action being taken."
