THE star of Bath Light Operatic Group's latest production is to celebrate his 21st birthday by taking to the stage at the Theatre Royal in Bath.

George Miles, who plays the title role of Shrek in Shrek the Musical, celebrates his 21st birthday on the opening night on Tuesday, October 8.

A regular performer with BLOG, George’s previous roles for the group include Bert Barry in 42nd Street and Rooster in Annie at the Theatre Royal.

Recently, he also played Captain EJ Smith in Titanic The Musical for Zenith Youth Theatre Company, receiving a Rose Bowl Award nomination for Best Youth Actor.

Known to audiences both on stage and front of house, George has worked as an Usher at Bath’s Theatre Royal for several years.

His transformation into the titular green ogre will involve two hours of preparation as he dons his make-up and costume prior to curtain up.

Mr Miles heads a 40-strong company aged from seven to seventy-five years who hail from Bath, Trowbridge, Bradford-on-Avon, Midsomer Norton, Frome, Melksham and Saltford.

Princess Fiona is played by Lizzie Andrews, and Ryan Hughes plays Shrek's sidekick, Donkey.

Bath Light Operatic Group, winner of the coveted Best Musical Award at 2018’s prestigious Bristol Post Rosebowl Awards, makes a welcome return to the Theatre Royal.

They will give theatregoers in the city the first opportunity to see the Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure Shrek The Musical, which makes its Bath stage debut from Tuesday, October 8 to Saturday, October 12.

BLOG is one of only 19 societies nationwide to be granted a license to perform the musical in 2019, BLOG’s production will feature brand new costumes from Charades Costumiers.

Based on the 2001 Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and William Steig’s 1990 book, Shrek The Musical brings all the beloved characters audiences know from the big screen to life on stage.

First seen on stage in America in 2008, previous Broadway and West End productions have proved a hit with audiences of all ages on both sides of the Atlantic.

With an irresistible mix of adventure, laughter and romance, it features a side-splitting script by David Lindsay-Abaire and all new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Caroline or Change) including Who I’d Be, Freak Flag, Big Bright Beautiful World, as well as I’m a Believer, the much-loved pop hit made famous by The Monkees,

The company’s recent productions at the Theatre Royal include 42nd Street and the Rose Bowl Award-winning Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Produced to professional standards by a dedicated behind-the-scenes team from Bath Light Operatic Group, Shrek The Musical is directed and choreographed by David Baxter and features a live orchestra under the baton of musical director Matthew Finch.
