POLICE say they stopped a Mercedes travelling at 63 miles per hour in Wallisdown in an attempt to beat traffic on Friday evening.

Officers from Dorset Police's No Excuse team stopped the Mercedes A220 AMG on the service road beside Wallisdown Road.

One of the officers alleged: "The vehicle was trying to jump the traffic travelling at 63mph.

"At this time of day, the service road is busy with pedestrians, cyclists, lorries and other vehicles – there’s no excuse for this type of speed."

The driver will be "off to court", the officer said.

A Mercedes A220 can go from 0 to 62mph in around seven seconds. It has a top speed of 150mph.
