APPLE Bake Off judges have spent the week searching for their winner, after the star baker left without realising her victory.

Apple pie baker Brenda Palmer impressed judges with her tasty homebaking but after claiming first prize at the Trowbridge Apple Festival, she did not come back to discover her win, and it took a social media plea to find her.

When Mrs Palmer left her pie for judging, she only left her name with the entry, tantalising festival organisers.

Eventually organiser Mel Jacob tracked her down and was able to congratulate her on her win.

Mrs Palmer, who lives near the town centre said: "I was completely surprised to win first prize, I have baked all my life and love it. I was quietly optimistic but it was still a surprise

"My friends and family were thrilled to hear about it all and very supportive.

"I went to the festival and was so impressed with everything going on. There was lots of things going on and interactive stalls for the children."

Volunteer Katrina Walley said: “We have picked apples from lots of gardens across the area and we want people to taste them. Some are juicy and tangy, while others have a much sweeter taste. We are so pleased with how the event has gone. I was here until 10pm the night before putting the finishing touches together and people have really enjoyed themselves.”

In 2018 the event was cancelled due to bad weather but a little rain did not get in the way of this year.
