PEOPLE of all ages were getting ready to take part in Trowbridge Carnival this evening ( October 19) as thousands of others took to the streets to cheer the floats.

Carnival chairman Maryrose Mantle, who has been involved with the parade for more than 20 years, was delighted with the number of entries and the work that had gone in to make them special.

She said: "Trowbridge Carnival has changed a huge amount over the years but it is still very special. We have had a brilliant number of entries and I am very please with the numbers taking part.

"It is still a very special part of the Trowbridge calendar."

Many of the big floats taking part having been competing in the Wessex circuit but agreed they always look forward to coming to Trowbridge.

The Freddie Sez float from Shaftesbury was made up of Freddie Mercury lookalikes of all ages. Carnival group secretary Becky Rendell said: "It is our seventh year coming to Trowbridge and we always enjoy ourselves here."

The Magnum Carnival Club from Blandford had taken six months to create their tableau display of the Ravens In The Tower and were hoping for success.

Pete Haines from the club said: "We love coming to Trowbridge."

The White Horse Samba group from Calne led by chairman Idril Shelveck was also pleased that her band was having the chance to show their talent alongside the Swans and Signet Dancers also from Calne.
