BARNEY Lodge Day Nursery on Westbury Road, Warminster has been given permanent permission to increase the number of children in its care from 45 to 70.

It was given two years to try out the increase in 2018 and following the success of the trialled higher numbers, now has permission to make it permanent.

However one neighbour is concerned about noise levels and called for a 90 minute period each day when children are not outside.

Neighbour Larry Bohana wrote to Wiltshire Council to voice his concerns, but did not attend a meeting held to approve the change. He said: “If this issue is not addressed now, matters will only become worse and more distressing for neighbours.

"Surely a timetable for when the children are noisily outside at play should be a condition of the application. One and a half hours during the morning and afternoon would not be unreasonable.”

Cllr Pip Ridout said: “The neighbour was very very strongly in objection, however despite three messages and telling them about this meeting they are not here today.”

Lynn Ashton from the nursery said: “We limit children's use of the zone one area nearest the houses, to two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon out of respect for our neighbours. We have reduced the number of children using the outdoor area at any one time to 43. Highways found the phased arrival works and parking is adequate. "Educational facilities are often in residential areas and encourage walking to and from nursery or school. Environmental officers have investigated noise and are content with their findings." Councillors agreed with her arguments and approved the application.
