STRICTLY Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas will switch on the Christmas lights in Darlington on Sunday, November 24.

She will be dancing her way into Darlington, alongside actor and partner Daniel Taylor, to switch on the festive lights ahead of their appearance in the annual family festive pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, at Darlington Hippodrome.

The switch-on will be taking place from 4pm on November 24.

Waterstones will be opened later to coincide with the Christmas Lights and there will be mince pies and spiced drinks with children being able to design their own Christmas hats.

Steve and Karen from TFM will be hosting the night alongside various special guests.

Also starring in this year's panto is Britain’s Got Talent winner George Sampson, and comedian Phil Walker.

Ms Ballas said: “This is only my second pantomime having been encouraged to give it a try last year by fellow Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood. I’m so excited to be appearing in Darlington and this wonderful theatre – the restoration is absolutely stunning.”

Britain’s Got Talent winner George Sampson said “This will be my eleventh panto and I am so looking forward to teaming up with Shirley to be able to do some dancing. It has been a dream of mine to do a panto in the North-East."
