JUST 30cm has caused neighbours to lock horns after an extension was built without the correct planning permission.

Regulations were thrown out the window by homeowners Fulmar Close, Bowerhill, Melksham after they extended their garage up 75cm instead of the permitted 45cm.

However the Western Planning Committee approved of the application after being told by experts that blocking the build would likely to be overturned by a more senior planning inspectorate.

Cllr Andrew Davis said: “I am very always very angry when somebody gets planning permission and builds something different. It’s happened so many times and I think it’s completely wrong.”

Neighbour Robert Palin agreed: “Although this building attracted some support, the overriding principle must not be lost. In order to maintain the integrity and public confidence in the planning system I would hope this is refused.”

Councillors have now reluctantly given the build retrospective planning permission.
